The Christmas craft and decorating has started. We are making our own decorations for our Christmas tree and decorating the room with our art works!
S2H has done such a great job with their creative writing this term. We have spent the whole term writing, editing and publishing a fairy tale story. Each student created their own story and book cover. What a fantastic effort by all!! Here they are completing the finishing touches.
Week 7
This week we made story boards about the Tashi series. Each group read a different Tashi book and created their story board to present to the class. This was a great way to find out all of Tashi's wonderful adventures from the students of S2H.
In maths this week we learnt about tessellation. We made different shapes tessellate and recorded our patterns in our maths books.
Remembrance Day
Today we paid our respects to the men and women who lost their lives in war. We had many different discussions about war, heart ache and the importance of remembrance day. We had one minute silence at 11am and I was so proud of S2H for taking the day seriously and showing their respects. We wore our poppies and rosemary all day and created posters around our feelings towards Remembrance Day.
They got their pen licence!
Stage 2 community walk excursion on this Wednesday the 5th of November. All notes need to be to school before Wednesday.
Grandparents Day.
1/11/14- Thanks to all of our wonderful grandparents for visiting our classroom on Thursday. Grandparents day was such a success and we cannot wait to do it all again next year.
Word of the week.
28/10/14- Each week S2H find different words in the dictionary that will help them with their writing. They write and decorate the word on a piece of paper then put them up in the classroom for everyone to see. At the end of each week we vote on the best two words to stay up in the classroom for the term. We talk about each word that is up before we vote. Whoever writes the word tells the class what the word is and what it means. This is a great way to create a word wall, gain a better understanding around many different words and have some fun doing it!
25/10/14- Don't forget Grandparents Day is next Thursday! This is a great chance for our grandparents to come and see what 21st century learning is all about. S2H are looking forward to sharing all of their wonderful work and achievements over the year with them as well as show off their skills in drama.
We will be performing 'Paint you a song' on grandparents DAy!

Week 10 19/9/14
We had a very exciting and special visit to our school this week. On Wednesday morning at 10am we had an online visit from Steve Harpster. Steve is a very talented cartoon artist. We arranged for Steve to make an online visit with us to teach us how to draw cartoons using simple letter and numbers. Steve lives on the other side of the world in Ohio, USA. When he visited us it was 6pm Tuesday night his time and 10am Wednesday morning our time. We had such a fantastic time and learnt some wonderful drawing techniques. The whole school got involved from kindergaten to year 6. The whole school was totally amazed with his talent and were engaged in the cartoon drawing. For more information on Steve and his Harptoon drawing visit the link in the button below.
Here are some photos from our Harptoons drawing!

Week 9
13/9/14 - This week was full of exciting things happening in stage 2. We started the week with some students attending Digi Ed. This day was full of fun learning new skills in technology, model making and art. The students produced some great short claymation films and had a ball doing it!
Stage 2 excursion to Sydney
I had many reports back from our wonderful Stage 2 teachers that S2H had a wonderful time on camp and were so well behaved. I unfortunately could not attend the excursion this year but was so excited to hear the stories from the children when they got back. Mrs Bennett took photos of S2H for me and I will be posting them soon with some stories from the class about their favourite excursion activities.

7/9/14 - This week we had a visit from Solo recycling and Port Stephens Council. They discussed the importance of using the right bins at home and gave us strategies to reduce our household waste to better the environment. Everyone was so interested in this talk we decided to look further into this issue back in the classroom. We looked at some youtube video about waste in our oceans and environments. We are making some posters at school to promote the importance of recycling. Stay tuned for photos.
This youtube shows the devastation that humans can have on the environment.
Talking Chairs 7/9/14
We are learning about tense in literacy at the moment and what a better way to learn about it than to be in that moment. We have three chairs placed the the front of the room- past, present and future. Each children is given the same scenario and they have to retail the scenario from the chair they are in.
For example:
Past - I walked the dog yesterday
Present - I am walking my dog
Future - Tomorrow I am going to take my dog for a walk.
This was a great way to learn about tense and the class loved it!

Numeracy week
This week is numeracy week. We have had stage 3 students in the classroom to assist us with some fun space and measurement activities. Numeracy is a huge part of everyday life and is important for our students to see these connections. I posed this question to my maths groups this week....
Can you think of a job that does not use mathematics in it? I have not found one yet!
